I've been hearing alot about Kindles...people love them! I see alot of them in airports and on planes...speaking of Planes, Jimmy Carter has had one for years! And they thought he was just a peanut farmer...one of GA's finest exports...not peanuts, Jimmy....He makes me proud to be a Georgia girl! CAn i get a whoop, whoop?!

I have the 'latest generation' Kindle. It does have a good screen for reading and it's great to be able to download something you want to read and have it right away. But some of the books have typos and I don't think it will take the place of real books for me. If you read mostly fiction, then it wouldn't be a problem, but any type of book with space for writing in, like self-help type books, I wouldn't recommend getting on a Kindle. If you do get one, get the one with free 3G so you don't have to set up wireless where you are, that's one regret I have...if I lose the wireless signal I have to set it up again with the password, etc. The lighted covers are great for reading in the dark, by the way.
I gave one to my sister last year for her b-day and she LOVES it. My brother has one too and LOVES it. I think if you are a big reader, then it well worth having one. Plus there are several free books you can get and new releases are cheaper than if you buy the actual book.
It is really cool too because you can adjust the font size and even have it read out loud.
If you read at night, make sure you get a book light for it since it isnt backlight.
Got the wifi only Kindle ($139) when it came out. I didn’t feel the need to have total connectivity by buying the 3G model. No problem synching with all the free wi-fi hotspots available now.
Love it for quick reading. Can rip off a chapter of a book while waiting for an appointment. Battery life is great, only plug it in every couple of weeks.
I’ve been reading digital text for years starting with a pc and a Palm Pilot, so the Kindle is a huge upgrade - I can now see pictures and illustrations.
Also have Kindle reader installed on my PC and my G2 phone. So books I buy through Amazon are available on all of my devices.
I can transfer my own books (no DRM and in a MOBI format) from my PC. I download books for Gutenberg.org. I’ve got a magazine subscription I transfer over as well. The lack of 3G probably keeps my impulse book purchases down as well.
The Kindle has text to speech which the other eReaders (except the iPad) don't have.
Probably a geek/tech thing, but I don’t leave home without it!
I love love love my Kindle. I was traveling for work quite a bit, and it was great to be able to take many different books with me. Also, I find I'm much more adventurous about what I read, and willing to try new things, because it's so easy to sample and download new books.
